The Bay Institute works to protect, restore, and inspire the conservation of the San Francisco Bay and its watershed, from the Sierra to the Sea™. Water draining the west side of the Sierra Nevada is exported from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to Los Angeles in the California Aqueduct. On the east side of the Sierra, the Mono Basin and Owens Valley are where “the longest straw”—the LA Aqueduct—exports water to LA.
Join the film’s producer/director Samantha Bode in her epic hike up the length of the LA Aqueduct to a point farther north than San Francisco, where Eastern Sierra locals share with her the effects of taking water from the ecosystem. After the film, stay for a Q&A with Samantha. After the Q&A, learn from The Bay Institute and the Mono Lake Committee about their work to improve water management on both sides of the Sierra.
